Fighting Exclusion through Migration Awareness Leading Empowerment Skills
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Apr 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

This seminar, that will take place in Lviv (Ukraine) from September 1st to September 9th 2015, is aimed at experienced youth and social workers and volunteers, who want to acquire key competencies in promoting social inclusion processes by the employability of disadvantaged women and young girls and victims of violence. It will bring together 42 participants from countries representing Europe, Southeast Europe, the East, the Caucasus and the southern shore of the Mediterranean. The partners were chosen during different seminars, trainings, networking conferences and activities, and through the professional experiences of the members of AFJIC. During these occasions, all the participants agreed on that they can see certain difficulties, especially for immigrant girls living in disadvantaged neighbourhoods and victims of violence, in their search for employment and empowerment, and that there is a need to train youth and social workers in these issues. The results of the exchanges between the partners, even if they are from different regions (Europe, Meda, Southeast Europe, the East and Caucasus), have made it possible to highlight and identify the similarities in contexts, and the needs of the par-ticipants involved in the seminar are: - Lack of knowledge, aptitudes and attitudes regarding gender approach among experienced youth and social workers and volunteers - Lack of sharing, analysis and exchange of good practices in women's entrepreneurship as a lever for empowerment and social inclusion - The need to identify and manage stereotypes connected to gender and immigration in youth work - The need to improve the quality of work in non-formal and intercultural education, integrating the gender approach in associations and among youth workers - The need to promote and implement mechanisms and dynamics at a European and an international level to encourage the promotion of equality between the genders and equal opportunities Following these meetings, and the identification of the needs and findings mentioned above, the idea of the project was developed with the objective of developing the networks and deepen the competencies of responsible associations and youth leaders on the issues and causes of violence against women, especially in migrant communities, providing them with tools to facilitate empowerment, while reinforcing transversal skills and the entrepreneurial spirit of women that are victims of violence. The activities of the seminar directly respond to the general and specific objectives of the project using the methods of NFE. From the beginning of the project, the definition of concepts related to violence against women, migration and socio-professional integration will enable youth workers to become familiar with these concepts and the links between them. This includes exchanges, discussions, sharing of good practices, and panel discussions on the challenges faced by women. This will allow the responsible association leaders to increase their knowledge in the local realities of the participating countries. The sharing of good practices related to the fight against violence against women, will allow the participants to analyse and discover new methods and tools, with which they can be inspired to improve their youth work in their respective organizations, as well as develop new projects related to the theme. As for women's entrepreneurship, several activities, such as the presentation of women's cooperatives, sharing projects of the integration and employability of disadvantaged women, are intended to enhance the knowledge of youth workers, as well as to provide tools that they can use in their work with women's empowerment.
