The main objectives of "Fasten Seat Belts to the World 2" (FSB2) are to promote thelearning of languages, raise awareness and respect of cultural diversity, open up thedialogue between Europeans and Asians. One of the objective is to do that whiletravelling -"on board"- and thus to enhance travellers' trips to foreign countries. FSB2will produce a language audio programme in 6 most widely spoken Asian languages(Japanese, Mandarin, Hindi, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese) and humoristic cartoons aboutAsian "do's and don'ts” related to some European “do's and don’ts”. For example: for acartoon such as “Do not touch anybody to say hello/goodbye in Japan, just bow”, thecartoon will show the appropriate way to greet someone in Japan and then maybe link itto a do or don’t about greetings somewhere in Europe, for ex. in the UK “do not kiss”.Then, the cartoon will be followed by “How do you say hello/ goodbye in Japanese?”and the words for “Hello/goodbye” will pop out of the screen in Japanese writing and insimple phonetic form with the correct pronunciation which will be available in the audio,as well. The concept is to learn and listen short expressions and basic words and to assimilatethem with the help of their animated meaning, their recorded translation, their phonetictranscription on screen, their correlation to useful “dos and don’ts" and their translationson screen in 4 most widely spread European languages: EN, FR, ES, DE- asreferences. The outputs of the project are:a. DVD offering the audio and the visual programmes,b. a website containing the content of the audio and visual animations and moreinformation about the origins of the “dos and don’ts” and a forum forfeedbacks,c. 50.000 printed Z-cards with the content of the programme and all thesentences translated into the 6 languages as a take away, pocket-size travelguide.FSB2 will be broadcasted on the whole fleet of AIR FRANCE as a starter. The otherdomains of exploitation of FSB2 will be schools and universities and the media (TVchannels). This project aims to extend the horizons of FSB1 to Asian languages. All the products ofFSB2 will be adapted and ameliorated where needed to. The impact is to enhance thecuriosity of Europeans towards Asian languages and culture.
