Fast Forward on Innovation and Quality
Start date: Oct 1, 2014, End date: Sep 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The "Fast Forward on Innovation and Quality" project contributed directly to Babel Center's developmental strategy as provider of foreign language teaching services to adults. It contributed also to the organization's strategic objective to become an innovation center as far as working with adults is concerned locally, nationally and internationally. Babel Center is an organization which was created 10 years ago by a team of young teachers who had lifelong learning as common belief, and who kept looking for methods which would cater for the adults? needs of learning a foreign language in a simple and joyful way. In time, this team of teachers grew, and so did the number of languages being taught (10 currently). The needs of the adult students have changed also due to the changes in technology and to the increasing opportunities of using foreign languages. The first objective of the project being to acquire knowledge in what regards the use and integration of ICT tools in the teaching-learning process. The challenge and, in the same time, the second objective of the project is to find creative ways to cater for the needs of adult students, to maintain their interest for all languages being taught, and to build a system through which the quality of the courses offered would always be at high standards, and the teachers would always be motivated to seek for professional development and innovation. Another objective of the organization is to be part of an international context in the field of teaching foreign languages. Establishing international contacts and gaining access to the best sources of expertise in the year 2014-2015 meant a step forward in reaching the goal of bringing a Romanian added value at European level, through future projects and partnerships, and also a qualitative offer regarding Erasmus + trainings in Romania, in the field of teaching foreign languages. The "Fast Forward on Innovation and Quality" project aimed at reaching the objectives of development through organizing 6 European mobility actions in which 9 people were involved, sent by the organization. The aim was to offer the opportunity to take part in the mobility at each organizational level, starting with Junior Trainers and ending with Senior Trainers, looking at the participants? motivation and fields of interest/expertise, but also at their capacity to disseminate the results at a local, national and international level. The 6 mobility actions consisted of taking part in training sessions for the development of creative methodologies in the teaching of foreign languages and the creation of learning communities. (Creative Methodology, Building Positive Group Dynamics), for the use of new technologies and adapting to the requirements of the future (Future Learning -Using Ipads and Tablets, Education for Tomorrow), for the development of a qualitative system (Teach. Learn. Quality), and also for the development of linguistical, cultural and methodological competences in what regards the teaching of the Roman origin language, i.e. French (Teaching and Learning of French Language and Culture for Secondary and Further Education). The results of these mobilities come as a set of individual competences connected to the most up-to-date knowledge, extremely important abilities for the twenty-first century trainer, being part of an innovative school. Moreover, these also refer to the development of a confident attitude, a high self-esteem and an intercultural openness, being part of the European context, which motivated the participants to start the dialogue in various dissemination activities, Teacher Development sessions, workshops aimed at the community of educators, the organization and the facilitation process of the ? Innovation and quality in education? conference, and also in future partnership projects as a result of the teachers? involvement in this project. Due to the dissemination activities, the project has a significant impact at local level, among the community of Timisoara, but also at a national and international level, through the involvement of another 100 persons in activities which focus on the use of innovative educational methods. This project represents an essential stage for Babel Center, being now part of the organization?s portfolio. It has also emphasized the importance of learning in international contexts and also shown how the Babel team can contribute to the creation of a European know how in this field, by means of its expertise. In the last year, as the project took place, the confidence of the teachers working in the center increased, in what regards their own expertise, as a result of the extremely positive feedback received at local, national and international meetings, workshops and conferences.
