Sliač Primary art school (ZUŠ Sliač) is a sought after specialist school with almost 50 years of tradition. It focuses on the development and progress of artistic talents in kids´ and adults´. 280 children attend our school at present. Our school has 19 music, art and dance teachers. It is popular with pupils of all ages from nursery children through primary, secondary and university students but also adults. We provide education in arts for the neighboring towns too and also organize concerts for our whole region, and across the whole Slovakia.
Our conception consists of general, classical, but mainly special creative educational forms, bringing the music and art closer to our pupils faster and in a more modern way. We specialise in three fields – music, dance and art. Our basic principle is to respect the individuality of each student and to create the best conditions to each of them that lead to their success. At our school we also work with handicapped children with special educational needs and students from socially disadvantaged environment.
In scope of international cooperation we plan to carry out mobility project focusing on our teaching staff. The aim is to exchange our experiences with our partners in this project. The educational courses will be attended by four different groups in Germany. During these courses we would like to focus our activities on three basic areas that can help our school achieve long term success.
1.Focusing on common historical and cultural roots and current interests of countries (mainly EU).
In search of common values, comparison of european countries, we are becoming aware of our own values and importance of our culture and cultural heritage. Through it we form our individual national, and regional identities and use it in the process of education.
2.Focusing on development of multicultural competences and skills of teaching and non teaching staff.
By participation on international projects we are hoping in major language skills improvement via its active and informal usage (by it we will improve our communication skills, special vocabulary, listening and reading). Thanks to knowledge of foreign language, we will be able to understand and learn about other cultures. The more we know about each other (about cultural-historical and geographical background), the sooner we will be able to create the feeling of partnership that European Union needs in order to survive. Better knowledge of our differences and ability to discuss crossing borders should enable us to be more sensitive towards our own national specifics.
3.Focusing on innovative approach in education and training, projects and international approaches in teaching.
Our school would like for our staff to apply the new trends in education in arts by using individual creative possibilities, that we can accomplish by gaining neccesary skills and competencies. We respect individuality of each of our pupils. Therefore we aim to make our educational process to have the best possible quality. Our intention is to motivate the students to learn, to present the results of our work, to increase effectivity of teaching. We hope that by participating in the educational projects we will be able to create new partnerships with other participants, and hope for future cooperation (e.g. programme Erasmus plus, K2). Being open is extremely important to our school. Participating on project Erasmus plus would mean next step for us in moving our visions to become European model school (according to Concepts of school development). It would help our teachers gain new knowledge about other cultures and therefore widen the school curriculum. New and effective approaches could automaticaly transmit into daily educational process, and that would help the students to become european citizens with wider horizonts.
