Facility Management 4 Cultural & Educational Projects
Start date: Jun 17, 2014, End date: Sep 17, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The Project "Facility Management 4 Cultural & Educational Projects" involved 2 young men from Hungary and Spain aged 25 and 26 years old. The volunteers participated in a one year EVS in Berlin from June 2014 to June 2015 in the department of Facility management and international project management. German knowledge was not a prerequisite, the young man from Spain had no previous knowledge and the volunteer from Hungary had a B1 level of German. After the on-arrival training and the first week of getting to know: the tutor, the mentor, the apartment, the district and the workplace, the volunteers took a two-week intensive German class, separately for A1 and B1 level. The project was multifaceted because FEZ-Berlin is unique in Europe as a multi-divisional center which allows young people to choose from a wide spectrum of activities. The activities that run with a high profile are: Sociopolitical work with young people such as, for example, developmental and political education in the form of global learning, as well as participatory projects and international youth congresses orientated towards political and creative modules. These modules allow the young people to interact with the social processes of our times. Cultural youth work with focus on music, dance, theater/theater pedagogy, circus, arts and crafts, and media art. Technical youth work in the fields of ecology, information technology and multimedia, technical application, model building, astronautics, natural sciences, and experimentation. The programmes are conceived by a versatile and qualified team, often in co-operation with many diverse national and international partners. Young people are also actively invited to be involved as players in the conception, preparation and processing of the programmes. FEZ prefers using methods of participation: to invite the individual to partake actively, to gather personal experiences, to create a dialogue and partnership oriented towards multi-cultural and inter-religious meetings, the authenticity of the acting player, and an open and tolerant climate for talks and discussion. * The goals of this EVS project and learning outcomes were: European citizenship, Youth participation and Prevention of youth unemployment. Goal of the project was to give two young Europeans the chance to learn a new language, or improve it and to take on the tasks of the facility management team and learn how to organise international, European, educational, cultural events for schools and families and have the possibility to show initiative and implement ones own project ideas. At the same time we received much support and enrichment from the volunteers, especially during for the following international school and family projects: "Religions of the world", "Games of the world", "Fezitty- capital of children" and during the Workshops: "Safely surfing the Internet" and "European learning space". This mobility project has improved the self-esteem, responsibility and the independence of the volunteers. They were actively involved in the planing process, implementation and evaluation and could, at times, have some responsibility, develop initiative and independence. They were actively involved in the implementation of some projects and had a part to play in the outcome. Because the project work activities are conducted in tandem, it developed social skills such as: cooperation, adaptability, tolerance and conflict solving skills.
