Facilitating and fostering digital competence through volunteers - This is IT
Start date: Jan 1, 2012,

Digital literacy is becoming more and more as important for work, leisure and personal development as reading and writing. Further, digital literacy leads on to digital competence, the confident and critical use of information society technology for life and employability. It is underpinned by basic skills in ICT and the use of computers to retrieve, assess, store, produce, present and exchange information, and to communicate and participate in collaborative networks via the Internet. The This is IT - network will involve and engage stakeholders of learning providers, associations of social risk groups, the business world and volunteering organisations throughout Europe in order to collect, share and exchange information, solutions, tools to improve digital literacy and competence. The exchange of information will be highly beneficial and thus help to increase the knowledge of all involved stakeholders. The activities are targeted at citizens of all ages with the existing demands and options of enhancing their digital literacy and competence. The network will conduct a thorough research and collect the information to create an exhaustive database which will be published on an online platform in a so called "pathway repository". The database will have information about the stakeholders of the regions in LLP33, provide the option for volunteers to register and provide an overview of existing learning materials. Additionally, the partnership will build a toolkit with 21 steps to digital literacy that supports the efforts of the volunteers and learners and makes it easy to understand learning materials. Dissemination is a key factor for a successful network project. The objective is to create visibility and strengthen the impact of the project outcomes through dissemination activities targeting and involving key actors at national and European level.
