Fachkräfteaustausch zum Thema Interkulturelle Erziehung im Elementarbereich in Island
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our increasingly globalised and multicultural world requires intercultural competence of teaching staff and a professional handling of diversity already in early education. Therefore further education of vocational education personnel in pre-school education has a great significance. Teachers in vocational schools for pre-school teachers or managers and heads of daycare insitutions for children often do not have time in their daily routine to inform themselves about new approaches, integrative educational methods and intercultural topics. They have little knowledge of vocational education systems in other European countries and the methods practiced there. We have established the need and wish of the colleagues to get the opportunity to gain insight into the training contents and pedagogic concepts in early education in another country through many discussions with staff of diverse vocational colleges specialising in the training of pre-school teachers and with managers and heads of further education institutions and of other organizations working with children (nurseries, kindergartens, children and youth psychiatries, communal coordination offices for early education). They expect to recieve new inspiration, motivation and skills for their practical work in vocational education. The project planned here is embarking on reacting to this demand. In the framework of the project we envisage to travel to Iceland with altogether 24 participants, 12 in each flow (time period 2015-2017). The planned project aims to give participants an insight into the vocational education system of Iceland, with a special focus on the training of pre-school teachers that takes place at education colleges in Iceland. A further goal is to get to know the practices of two pre-schools with integrative pedagogic approaches and innovative methods in Reykjavik through hospitation in the institutions. An exchange with the local colleagues is also planned. A third goal of the project is to introduce the method of cooperative learning in multicultural groups to the participants by the partner organization Intercultural Iceland. Cooperative learning is a promising approach in integration work, in institutions that work with children as well, and therefore it is highly recommendable in pre-school teacher training. Once Mobility is completed, its participants will have achieved the learning goals of addressing the subject of interculturality, of being sensitised for difficulties at the integration of children with a migration background, and of discovering problem-solving concepts for their educational work. Through the experience abroad they will have gained intercultural competence and broadened their foreign language skills. In particular, they will have acquired new inspirations and knowledge profitable in their daily work in vocational education.
