PROJECT
FINISHED
The project "Explore Europe 2015-2016" enabled 39 young people during or immediately after their training to do an internship in Ireland, Malta, France, Great Britain and Austria. 35 people used our offer of organizing a complete internship package consisting of arranging an internship, accomodation, local transfer, language coarse, orientation meetings. In order to find fitting internships and provide great local service, the project works with local partner organizations, who know the employers and area very well. Most people travelled individually or in very small groups of three to four.
Four young people organized their stay themselves and received a full stipend.
Our aim was and is to service as many different branches as possible – thus we placed people with backgrounds as diverse as mechatronics, carpentry, marketing and social work. Since we have an especially solid network for health professions, 17 participants came from the field of nursing.
All participants gained greater understanding of the European labor market in their respective fields. Since we discussed learning goals beforehand with applicants, internship providers and school and employers in Germany, we were able to provide internships in which participants could apply their job-specific skills. In many, but not all, cases, it was also possible to acquire new job-related skills. All participants improved their language skills. Participating in Explore Europe greatly enhanced the self-confidence of the participants – all of whom had never worked outside of Germany before. Internship providers reported on the excellent qualifications of their German interns, who were thus great ambassadors for the German dual-system training. The participants were able to give solid information about the German education system in their respective fields.
In a mandatory prepartory seminar, participants learned about the Erasmus + programme of the EU and ist role in fostering employment, they reflected on their own job-related goals during the internship and received substantial information on contracts, learning agreements, insurance, travel, daily-life and whom to contact in emergencies. At a debriefing seminar after their stay abroad, participants reflected on the intercultural learning processes.
To validate the internship the participants were awarded a mobility pass.
