The main aim of the project was to create fundamentals for development by exploiting inland waterways. As for many years the role of waterways was minimized therefore they suffered continuous degradation. Tourism was one of the sectors, which can speed up the regional development. Therefore it was important to create conditions and also increase tourist attractiveness for foreign tourists. Central objective of InWater was to promote exploiting inland waterways for regional development and will contribute to steadying the importance of this topic in BSR region where the role of waterways was underestimated. It will also support regions to develop in a sustainable way increasing their potentials to grow especially in regions suffering the lack of functions generating income and creating new job places. It also strengthened regions in their competitiveness.The project was organized in a complex way first indicating barriers and problems, analysing them and generating innovative, optimised solutions that will be incorporated in guidelines for legislation and safety-security systems for inland waterway tourism. Then as the follow-up of these solutions, some activities are tested (concepts, revitalisation programs for regions along inland waterways, identification of localizations for landing stages and connected with them documentations, information campaigns on the inland waterways development, waterway signposting). This methodological approach was introduced in the WPs which provide the further possible usage of the waterway that facilitate the further regional developments. Achievements: The results of the InWater project are as the following:- State of the Art Study on legal and structural barriers, that result of incompatible decision making levels or diminishing possible usage of inland waterways and sustainable development of terrain along them (number of presentations, expertises, workshops, meetings)- Investigation main possibilities of linking Polish inland waterways with Lithuanian inland waterways and possible barriers (technical, organisation, legal)- Studies on current functions of waterway- Strategies, concepts and documentations for pilot regions- Exchange of the bests practices- Study tours on international waterway E-70 Berlin -Kaliningrad.Main results and outputs of the project including durabilityPlease describe what kind of changes the project contributed to. Please also describe the main concrete outputs. The presentation of the main results and outputs should preferably be followed by an evaluation of the achieved results in a BSR/transnational context and a reflection on the durability of the project such as examples of structures that will take care of the further work and implement developed methods and approaches.The good contacts with different institutions like involved in defining the barriers (educational, faculty experts), associations, foundations, authorities of water management and inland sailing, local and regional authorities, and members of parliament.The studies and strategies, concepts and documentations for pilot investmentsParticipation part in the National Public Debate on future investments, close contact to the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure.Promotions activities and dissemination work on international and local level raised awareness for InWater project and its idea (press releases, TV informations, local and transnational InWater websites, meetings).The project idea was also promoted on the university, especially between students, and some of them were participating in the project.The Project INWATER received the 2007 Year Award of Przyjazny Brzeg of Polish Sailors Association and Polish Tourist Association for the program of revitalisation of International Waterway E-70.
