Exploded View
Start date: Jul 1, 2014, End date: Jun 30, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Exploded View has been designed as a project for both students and staff. Being a vocational institute, situated in the Northern part of Holland, it is of great importance to provide students and staff with the opportunity to expand their view to be aware of the fact that we are all European citizens and that the labour market is expanding towards our neighbours. The project has been divided into different groups; for students there was a group aiming at Germany, this was done to expand their borders looking at the labour market. This was done especially for health and welfare, as the German labour market has a large demand for this group. This has also been done for Trade, as some cooperating companies have asked Drenthe College to provide them with students in order to become employees. The project has been an 'inbetween' step for this target group. There also has been a group of students, doing a placement which was organised by bureaus. In our experience we found out that vocational students need some guidance when they are abroad. By having placement organised by bureaus, we could provide these students with a good and sound experience, without the need of teachers travelling abroad. Furthermore we had a few cooperating schools, which both sent and received students. These were individual, tailor-made, placements. The last group of students consists of individual requests. Students, wanting to do a placement in a certain area or in a certain country. For teachers also different groups can be recognised. One important group consists of language teachers, they went together on a training course in England. For this training course language teachers from different departments were selected. There were also practise weeks for departments arranged, for instance a week for teachers to Birmingham, to see what a vocational school there looks like and what it means to be working in England. There also has been a group of health and welfare teachers, which went to Sweden, together with another -local- vocational school and employees from a hospital. Also teachers went to project partners in Spain and Italy, while we as a college, on the other hand, received staff from these project partners. We could conclude that the project has had all sorts of different target groups in it with all sorts of placements. This made the project rather difficult to manage, although the project overall did not include a large number of participants. Each of the above mentioned groups had their own set of rules and their own financial arrangements, which could result in the fact that students had different amounts of funding. This project for us as a college has clarified the different target groups and their needs and by doing so it was very helpful for us.
