Experiential Learning and Education for Nature Awareness
Start date: Nov 1, 2013,
Biodiversity provides basics and quality of life. To save biodiversity and its sustainable use has the same dimension and importance as the climate change therefore there is a need for social awareness that individual behaviour is influencing diversity and the state of ecosystems directly. This urges us to focus our efforts on the basics for environmental education.Recent research in pedagogic and cognitive science has underpinned the importance of real-life experience in learning in terms of forming attitude and behaviour. Business education and business operation is a key leverage point to environmental attitude change in the society, however, we experience today the separation of general environmental and business education.Based on the above problems our project targets the development of an activity-based, emotionally captivating and environmentally consciousness-building learning provision for school pupils. We will adapt the results of an already existing European initiative and new method, the ‘Tiere Live’ project. Considering the problem of separated learning paths for general and business education, our project aims at finding the common platform to define the required competencies that bridges the mentioned gaps. The project will focus also on catalysing partnership at all levels of the entire education system and its divers institutions and in order to foster the long-term impact the project will involve ministries, different government institutions and business enterprisesThe project will develop a Competency Framework, national Research Papers for local adaptation and implementation, Teaching Handbooks and a Methodology to use in professional teacher further training published on a public website. The project’s outcomes will have an impact on the teaching methods of science and environmental teachers and help to develop skills necessray to acquire environmentally responsible attitudes of school children to be used later in their business life.
