As the territory of euroregion “Country ofLakes”, covering border areas of Latvia,Lithuania and Belarus, is rich in natureparks, protected nature areas, landscapesand water resources, the rural and activetourism is considered to be one of the prioritydirections for cross-border cooperation.The project objective is to contribute to thedevelopment of active tourism and healthylifestyle of Latvian, Lithuanian and Belarusianpopulation and attract more tourists to theregion by improving cycling infrastructureand marketing the tourism possibilities in theBaltic Country of Lakes.The main project activities are implementedto strengthen and market the cycling netof the Baltic Country of Lakes consistingof 45 picturesque cycling routes that aredeveloped by setting up the small-scaleinfrastructure like common design signs,wooden rest and environmental protectionplaces, 13 watch towers offering a fantasticview on the landscape. In order to promotethe cycling network and healthy lifestyle forthe development of an active tourism in theregion 3 international cycling marathonsare also carried out together with a widepromotional campaign.
