Stiftelsen Grobunn is an ideal establishement that is based on the principles and philosophy of Anthroposophy, the work of educator Dr. Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925). The volunteers join in the responsibility of being an example for, and an instructor for our mentally handicapped youngsters who range in age from 17 to 25 years old. We have 9 students and 9 youngsters we call “Grobunn-lærlinger” who are finished with school, still live within our community, and have a more work related day. We support them in trying to manage with less support in their home/apartment. Our community offers both school and boarding for the school aged students. There are 1 couple and 3 single persons who live and work in the community. Other employees come to work here both during school time and morning/evenings in the houses where the students live. The school’s curriculum is based on practical learning in different realms as ecological farming and gardening, wood workshop, house holding / housekeeping, cooking and social training. We also see great meaning in celebrating the different festivals of the year and therefore music, painting and other creative classes for the students are important for bringing cultural activities into our community. The tasks are varied for anyone that joins us. Everything we do is based on and around the well-being and learning process of our students. Working on the farm and with the products produced on the farm and in the garden (meat, vegetables, berries, flowers, herbs), the main school kitchen (everyday lunch is made for 30-35 people, and we mostly use our own products from the farm), the wood workshop (different products are made, depending on the capacities of the students)and the firewood-production for the central heating system. In the students house the main work is to support the students in learning how to spend their free time constructively, make dinner, clean the house, take care of their clothes, interact socially, and feel safe and well. The volunteers work both in the school and in the students house, and take part in all the work and social life at Stiftelsen Grobunn.
All our co-workers are teachers as well as friends, and give guidance to the students in social life.
