Biedriba "Siguldas Alternativa izglitiba" in cooperation with local municipality's institution Creative Centre of Sigulda will host 4 volunteers (age 20-30) from different European countries, by implementing the long-term European Voluntary Service (EVS) project "EVS 4 Open-Minded Sigulda” from 02.05.2016. until 01.08.2017. Project foreign partners (sending organizations) will be: American International School of Transylvania (Romania); Teatro Metaphora - Associação de Amigos das Artes (Portugal, Madeira Island); Udruga za mlade Alfa Albona (Croatia) un KURO Hradec Králové (Czhech Republik).The project aims to achieve the following objectives:1) to involve young people in a meaningful voluntary work, provide them with opportunities for personal growth and development of competences, as well as encouraging their creative expression and intercultural dialogue within local community;2) to develop and strengthen cooperation between project partner organizations in the field of non-formal education and youth mobility.All year round two volunteers will participate in everyday activities at the Waldorf kindergarten of Sigulda (the institution of biedriba "Siguldas Alternativa izglitiba"), the other two will do their EVS work in the local municipality's institution - Creativity Center of Sigulda, which offers non-formal education activities for preschool and school age children and youngster in 3 different sections: children’s group "Chestnut”, children's center "Idea House" and Youth Initiative Centre "Objective". Their daily tasks will include assistance to the staff while doing educational, creative, and leisure time activities with the children and youngsters, teaching and learning the languages, participating in and help to organize the organization's annual events (creative afternoons, charitable activities and expeditions, children's camps, festivals, Youth days etc.), getting to know better the local society and local traditions, as well as Latvian seasonal festivities and celebrations.As the main topic of this project is creativity and culture, volunteers are welcome to develop their own ideas and initiatives by implementing non-formal education methods in order to create new cultural products.It is expected that the project will raise volunteer's self-esteem, improve language, communication skills and intercultural awareness, develop entrepreneurial initiative, as well as active participation in the society. With support of project staff volunteers will have the opportunity to actively promote their learning and learning skills assessment in order to get Youthpass certificates at the end of the project.Project "EVS 4 Open-Minded Sigulda" will have a positive long-term impact on the youngsters and other people from local society, as well as on local authorities and NGOs that work in Sigulda. As the result of cooperation between the 2 hosting organizations Facebook page for EVS volunteer's group in Sigulda will be developed. It will be possible to get the contact information of the volunteers or to read their own experiences. Any interested person, including EVS projects promoters at regional or international level, will be able to integrate best practice examples from our project into their environment, making it more modern and open.
