Evropská škola - program dalšího vzdělávání pedagogických pracovníků
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2018 PROJECT  FINISHED

Project European School is a part of professional development strategy of Gymnazium Hladnov a Jazyková škola s právem státní jazykové zkoušky Ostrava. Our school attaches great importance to preparing students to become democratic and socially conscious citizens with global outlook and abilities for independent reflection and problem analysis. Since the essence of our school is to educate young people in languages, the school is involved in many international but also national projects. The school was awarded the European Language Label for innovative language teaching in 2011 and 2015. Language teaching must be provided by qualified teachers as the lesson plans are very demanding and challenging and our project should provide an opportunity to improve and follow last trends in language teaching as proficiency in languages is no longer sufficient to prepare students for the competitive global market. European School project shifts priority from linguistic studies to encouraging creative and innovative thinking and aims preparing well-rounded students, versed in foreign languages and culture. The main objective of our project is to provide thorough language and methodological preparation to the teachers who take an active part in international activities and projects e.g. eTwinning, European Schoolnet, ITEC, Creative Classrooms Lab, Comenius, Czech-Spanish bilingual studies. Project is also aimed at the implementation of CLIL in civics and history lessons and should provide an opportunity to improve and follow last trends in language teaching. Project European School also includes job-shadowing as an opportunity of starting a professional collaboration with our partner school in Hungary (Budapest). Through appropriately chosen courses we want to focus on the development of the skills of teachers in the field of communication in English language, acquisition or extension of vocabulary in the subject and familiarity with the new findings in the methodology, especially focusing on CLIL. Project European School, which involves 10 teachers, is divided into four parts: a) Job shadowing – will be performed at bilingual secondary school in Budapest. b) CLIL Methodology Teacher Training Courses in England c) Language teaching and methodology course in England and Spain and Cultural facts courses in England d) Intensive general English courses in England - to improve communication skills and enrich professional vocabulary The goal of the project is to offer teachers opportunity for professional growth and the opportunity to participate in the school profile and to increase the competitiveness of the schools within the Moravian-Silesian region. And of course the project will provide long-term cooperation with partner organization in Hungary. The result of the project should be to improve the level of key competencies and skills, improve the quality of work with young people, independent management of international projects, efficient use of different learning strategies, development of more efficient processes in the learning process and reflection on their own learning and thinking. Added value, and thus the result are to provide teachers with opportunities for professional growth (expansion of communicative language proficiency) and the opportunity to participate in the school professional development. At the same time the project will provide the school cooperation with partner organizations in Hungary, and cultural and educational institutions in the Czech Republic.
