Evaluation of the potentials of the renewable resources: Atlas of the residues forest and applications of the biomass in Atlantic Space (BIORREG-FLOREST)
Start date: Mar 31, 2004, End date: Mar 14, 2007 PROJECT  FINISHED

The BIORREG FLORESTA project aims to stimulate sustainable management of economic activities through actions which respect the environment and natural resources, in the domain of agriculture and the forestry sector. BIORREG FLORESTA is based, on the one hand, on didactic proposals concerning information and training, and on the other hand, on the technical and diversified development of renewable applications, such as the construction and start-up of a biomass centre for power production, as well as the putting into effect of an Interactive Energy Hall functioning by photovoltaic solar energy. Achievements: ✔ In-depth study of the situation of renewable energies in the area of operation, ✔ Collecting information and creation of a geographic information system (GIS), ✔ Drafting of maps showing the production of forest residues for the Atlantic Area, ✔ Drafting and dissemination of a forest atlas (forestry statistics, themed maps), ✔ Analysis of the existing technologies and creation of a best practices manual on how to use them, ✔ Market studies making it possible to choose the most opportune places for building energy production plants using biomass fuel, ✔ Impact studies of these plants. Corrective actions to minimise the environmental impacts. Public awareness campaigns for each plant, ✔ Construction of energy production plants using biomass fuel, ✔ Creation of a website for the project: www.Biorreg-floresta.org, ✔ Organisation of information seminars: over 500 participants (experts, companies, political representatives and local populations...), ✔ Printing of 2000 brochures in 3 languages about the project, ✔ Publication of 2 pages in a scientific journal (O Monte from the AFG)
