Witos Vocational School Complex in Sucha Beskidzka went to Portugal and Greece to take part in a project called ?The European model of vocational education in practice.? The main objective of the project was to increase the vocational mobility of the students, thanks to acquiring practical experience in hospitality management and culinary arts in international environment. Participants were divided into two groups and it took them 28 days to complete the course. The first group of 10 students of hospitality management and 20 students of culinary arts from Rev. Prof. Józef Tischner Vocational School Complex number 3 in Bochnia received training in Portugal. The other group consisting of 20 students of hostility management and 11 of culinary arts from W. Witos Vocational School Complex in Sucha Beskidzka underwent training in Greece. Before the journey, participants had taken part in special courses preparing them for the abroad mobility. The workshops focused on improving language skills of the partakers (English, Portuguese or Greek) and introducing students with basic knowledge about the other cultures.
Apart from having attained the primary goal of the project, which was to provide the participants with the possibility to upskill, students could also achieve indirect aims such as: getting acquainted with the rules governing foreign hotel and gastronomy enterprises, improving the command of foreign language ? breaking the language barrier (especially in terms of industry-specialized terminology), learning resourcefulness, mobility and assertiveness. Multicultural experience has had a positive impact on students? openness and tolerance, as well as, it sharpened the sensitivity for cultural and mental differences. Students have acquired competence, that could not be developed in Poland and therefore their situation on the job market has significantly improved. Acquired skills fit in the demands of Polish employers, so as a result, students? confidence in themselves and their opportunities was significantly boosted. Thanks to the acquired knowledge about the functioning of hotel and gastronomy enterprises, youth are capable of drumming up their own businesses and functioning on the European job market.
