PROJECT
FINISHED
School Europeanization through systemic introduction of pro European attitudes, enhancing teachers' competences for improving the process of teaching and tutoring. The project aims at introducing innovative methods in the methodology of many subjectsand thus breaking the classroom routine and significantly improving the results gained by the students at the external examinations. The school is planning to take part in four mobilities- courses. The courses have been chosen on the basis of the questionnaire conducted among teachers in the school year 2014/2015 in order to cater for their needs in the following fields: 1) Enhancing the command of foreign languages( especially English) so as the teachers could fully participate in the Erasmus+ program implemented at school in years 2015-2917. Better knowledge of foreign languages will signifcantly influence the quality of exchanges, quality of work within the project, the quality of products, will enlarge the group of participants in prpoject activities on the part of the teachers. The school will be able to fully make use of all the advantages of international cooperation.2) The teachers will be able to upgrade their ICT skills, which seems to be indespensible in motivating especially weak students to learn.3) Implementing the project steps will enable the school community to develop the attitude of tolerance and respect for other cultures especially towards groups of people threatened by social exclusion, disadvantaged groups, students living in poverty. The teachers will learn how to work with them and how to teach students respect towards the unknown. We believe the acquired knowledge and skills will have long-lasting effects on the school community and will lead to reversing the sad tendency which we observe growing in our community – fear of the disadvantaged groups. 1.Language course in St. Julian's in Malta offers two weeks of intensive language training in multicultural and multilingual groups (10 teachers will participate).2.Methodology Revisited, Revitalised & Re-energised in St. Julian's in Malta – methodology course for teachers of foreign languages during which the teachers will be able to enhance their teaching methods in multicultural environment ( 3 language teachers). 3.ICT for Teaching- A practical course to incorporate Information Technology into Teaching ( literacy, numeracy, science etc.) Jaen, Spain – the training which developes the abilities of using latest ICT methods in class. After completing the course a vast number of teachers will be able to make use of the school ICT equipment on a grand scale. This in consequence will result in enhancing the students' motivation to learn and their higher academic result ( 5 teachers ).4.Different Cultures in Europe: The Art of Coming Together- Great Britain, London. The course will enable the teachers gain knowledge of coexistence of different cultures within one school community which we envisage will be a significant problem of the incomming years ( 5 teachers). The aims of the project: enhancing the teachers' ICT competences thus making teaching methods more attractive and effective enhancing teachers' motivation to use innovative methods in the teaching process, introducing student needs oriented activities, differenciating the needs of weaker and gifted students, fighting the gaps between the two groups. fostering European dimention of the school work – including the widest possible number of teachers in implementing inernational cooperatio within Erasmus+ and etwinning programs. Enhancing foreign language skills through courses, international cooperation. Integrating students coming from different backgrounds, cultures through open and supportive teachers' approach. Enlarging the selection of extra curricular activities, including interdisciplinary activities catering for the needs of ex disadvantaged and talented students. Creating a data base of teaching materials available for all the teachers at school, thus disseminating the results of the courses and trainings completed by the teachers. initiating and reinforcing cooperation with educators from other European countries by participating in eTwinning projects. creating, sharing and strategic use of the quality-based supportive didactic materials in open educational resources and through Twinspace to enhance cooperation and exchange good practices. exerting positive influence on local authorities for dynamic cooperation. recognition and validation of the acquired competenes of the teachers participating in the above mentioned courses. The amount of teachers involved constitutes a critical mass of the teaching staff in our school. This in turn will guarantee long-lasting effects of the implemented strategic changes, which aim at constant professional development of the staff in line with students’ needs, adopting new didactics and ICT-based methods in daily educational process.
