European Values Education
Start date: Oct 1, 2009,

There is a great lack of knowledge of European values and of how these differ from country to country, among young people. Teachers in high schools and at Teachers’ Colleges and their students don’t know these values and don’t know how to deal with them. There are hardly any or no known training examples, teaching materials or approaches. To answers these questions this project is being executed. Results and products are: The existing website www.atlasofeuropeanvalues.eu has been expanded with three languages (Turkish, Spanish and French). Furthermore a subtitled film of about 12 to 15 minutes has been put on the website showing about 15 students of around 16 year of age from five participating countries telling about their values and ideas on four subjects: family, religion, community and work.To teach teachers to work with the material four workshops of five workdays each have been organised under the guidance of the composers of the atlas. During this workshop 10 teachers of the five teachers’ colleges (The Netherlands, England, Germany, Slovakia and Turkey) will be explained how the atlas is developed and how it can be used in lessons in high schools and teachers’ colleges. During the workshops, 40 training examples/frameworks and possibilities of the atlas were developed. There are four rounds of student exchanges of five workdays (20 students of the participating teachers’ college each time). During these workdays the students will transform the training examples into workable lessons, execute these at a minimum of 10 schools and evaluate these. Besides that, high school students will put their thoughts on the discussed theme on video. Lessons, training examples and evaluations will be translated and published on the website.
