This Jean Monnet Module seeks to fill a gap in the training available in Galicia on the EU’s Integrated Maritime Policy (IMP) and its impact on the region. Galicia is a peripheral region of the EU, highly dependent on the sea and fishing. Currently, no specialised university courses on EU marine and maritime affairs are offered in this part of Spain. Therefore, students in the Galician university system and local marine and maritime professionals do not have access to a university-level course able to provide them with specialised training, based on a comprehensive, global, intersectoral approach, that seeks to coordinate the EU’s existing sectoral maritime policies under the umbrella of the IMP. This Module could be of great interest to students at the University of A Coruña (of law, economics, sociology, nautical science, etc.) and to professionals in various sectors related to the sea (regional government and port authority, local stakeholders, etc.). The proposed Jean Monnet Module would include: 1) Teaching activities: to provide a forum for teaching, analysis and critical thinking about the IMP.2) Debating activities: intended to encourage critical thinking about the IMP and how it impacts Galicia in order to bridge the gap between citizens and the EU’s regulatory activity with regard to the IMP.3) Development of a CD-ROM with the legislation and case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union on the EU’s IMP and the sectoral maritime policies that make it up.4) Research: to consolidate the research conducted to date on issues related to the sea.The expected impact would be: 1) To increase teaching excellence on EU subjects at the university.2) To strengthen existing synergies amongst researchers on European issues from different universities in Galicia. 3) To identify, analyse, give visibility to and disseminate information about the IMP in Galician society.
