To prepare for their entry into the European market, and increase their competitiveness, , the applicant countries must move quickly to bring their companies into line with European standards. This project emphasises the strategic role which packaging has played since 1998 when strict European regulations on environmental protection came into force. The partnership proposes to set up a European training network, including a resources centre to facilitate packaging technology transfers. The project will also include developing engineering training to respond to the specific needs of the target countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria) and inspire them to conduct their own research. The proposed programme is structured around the following:° analysis of needs, creation of a modular training programme with teaching tools;° creation of an evaluation method;° tests on the teacher training component, and evaluation of the tests;° establishment of a network for training and labelling. After three years, the project should be able to stand alone.
