European Molecular Imaging Doctoral School
Start date: Oct 1, 2011,

Molecular imaging is a developing technology that allows for the study of molecular and cellular events in living subjects (human and animal). This field of research is rapidly growing in industry and academia and requires the expertise of PhD level molecular imaging professionals. This type of professional should have an in depth theoretical understanding of the different scientific domains within molecular imaging and expert level hands-on knowledge in one or more subtopics. With the European Molecular Imaging Doctoral School or EMIDS we aim to develop a complete third cycle of education for doctoral students. The proposed network of universities brings together complementary expertise in the different domains and sub-domains of molecular imaging. This European level of cooperation is required to cover this full spectrum of skills because none of the individual institutes has the expertise at an international top level in all aspects. The key pedagogical strategies includes a minimum six month stay abroad at a molecular imaging lab for PhD work with an expert in a specific topic and regional workshops with in depth theoretical and hands-on training programs. These workshops will be recorded on video and disseminated online and formatted for viewing on mobile devices. The language of all courses will be English. This project aims to train a new generation of molecular imaging professionals with improved employability in research and development teams in academia and the industry. These professionals will have a deciding impact on the development of future drugs and diagnostic imaging agents with the ultimate goal of improving patient care by facilitating personalized medicine.
