European Migrant Women against Gender Violence
Start date: Sep 1, 2010,

W.O.M.E.N. in Iceland plan to provide an international 5-day training course for NGOs and institutions focusing on womens´ rights and a particular interest in migrant women as well as international youth mobility. The date for this training was chosen with a very particular background. The 24th October 2010 will mark once more the Women´s Day off in Iceland (this time called more specific Women Strike back), a nation-wide strike of women for gender equality which has a history of now 35 years. This year´s activities will focus on gender-based violence and W.O.M.E.N. in Iceland have already participated in the preparation of this event together with all major women´s rights groups in Iceland. All these groups will invite their networks from all around Europe and the World to meet first within their specific context and then, Sunday 24th, the participants will have the opportunity to join an international conference and participate there actively through presenting the results of their work. On Monday 25th October, participants will meet with interested NGO representatives in their field and participate in activities around the Strike and their own focus. Our training course is aimed at enabling young women of foreign origin and those working with them to discuss the topic on gender-based violence both regarding their own target group and a wider European context.
