The European Medskills project aims to create online training materials for the teaching of medical skills to medical and nursing students/employees and related medical intervention groups. A broad-based, educational tool will be developed using evidence-based medicine related to real-life scenarios that are relevant for a range of user groups. Modules will cover frequently occurring medical emergencies and will offer teaching at different levels for a range of user groups. The partnership will both revise existing materials and create new training modules for inclusion in the teaching package. The medical content of modules, to include best practice, will be developed by the partnership's medical practitioners. Feedback on module content and software delivery will be collected via user group meetings with graduate students and junior doctors and via input from professional organisations. The developed modules will be delivered via the internet or as a CD-Rom. Active web pages, including video and audio material, will support individual portfolios along and will involve interactive teaching assessment and self-evaluation by users. The modules are intended for incorporation into existing teaching courses or for independent learning. The end results will be made freely available online to ensure the widest possible dissemination. Existing partners networks will support active targeting of potential user groups.
