The proposed project has a twofold aim: firstly, to deepen research in the areas of agriculture, tourism and maritime policies by leading to innovation in governance on these thematic pillars. It will mobilise a comprehensive consortium of several research infrastructures in these sectors as well as other stakeholders at a national and European level, bringing together and enhancing key national research infrastructures in Greece. Secondly, it aims to develop content and tools on EU subjects to update and complement the current curricula by incorporating the best EU practices in the agriculture, tourism and maritime sectors. The intention is to equip students and young professionals with EU Governance knowledge in these areas and enhance their practical and civic skills. Drawing on the successful output coming out of the Centres’ preceding Jean Monnet European Governance project, the proposed project aims to build on its previous work, particularly on the Report on Greece’s European Governance, which produced realistic proposals for Greece’s recovery, in order to turn it into tangible results. It is by tangible means that the concept of European integration can be reconstituted in Greece and that the proposed project can provide a concrete paradigm for the sound contribution of the European South in the European integration endeavour. The top priorities of the project are a) to expand the current EU-related subjects throughout the curricula of the hosting institution improving the quality of professional trainings, b) to teach specific EU related subjects on the three sectors at thematic institutions whose studies have limited exposure to but are increasingly affected by EU aspects and c) to ensure openness to civil society, bringing together EU-related NGOs with their area of interest being one of the three sectors. To this end, the Centre will use an already established network of academics, practitioners, local and regional authorities and civil society actors.
