European Friends for Green Trends is a long-term EVS project centred on the theme of environment protection and sustainable development. The project will be held in Opatija (Primorje-Gorski kotar County) and include volunters coming from three different European countries (Poland, Turkey and Spain) who will together work and live during their 12-month voluntary service (two of them for 12-month period, one for 9-month, who will be replaced by fourth volunteer from the same organisation for remaining 3 months). The main objectives of the project are: raising awareness about environmental issues and sustainable development as a base for preservation of quality of life ; dissemination of knowledge and skills with the aim of changing people’s way of thinking and leading them to adopt greener and more sustainable lifestyle; promotion of young people’s active participation in community life and their involvement in the environmental decision making process; promotion of volunteerism, especially among young people, as a way of making a positive impact on the community and developing one’s skills and competences and thus enhancing one’s employability. In order for these objectives to be reached the following activities are to be implemented: the education of school population (Green hour in the school), national campaign Green cleanup, Zmergo's Ecological Centre, EAThink project workshops, the school of ecological cuisine, workshops and seminars aimed at promotion of volunteerism and the commemoration of ecological dates throughout the year. The volunteers will participate and give their creative contribution to all of project’s activities and will go through the process of non-formal learning as a result of what they will upgrade their skills and competences. The non-formal learning process will consist of the following methods: individual and group work, learning by practice, practical workshops, discussions and exchange of experience. Additionally, intercultural dimension and exchange of attitudes and experiences will come as a result of living and working together and rising awareness of each other cultures.
