European Educational Techniques for a European High Level Youth Integration

Having been nationally and internationally acknowledged as an elite school and awarded the title of European School, Mihai Eminescu National College is renowned for the excellent results and high performance of its students in national evaluations, baccalaureate exam, university admission, national and international school contests and Olympiads. Such outstanding status in education implicitly requires the responsibility of identifying the students ‘needs of personal development. Thus, our goal is to adapt the best European school practices of integrated approach to learning, of novel and creative strategies and ways of developing life and career abilities to our school environment.The objectives of this project are:- Diversify the curricular offer of optional courses and extra curricular activities in our school, by designing the syllabus for three integrated optional courses and organising at least four extra-curricular activitities, all conducted in English- Improve the actual educational strategies by including at least four new elements identified during the mobilities and disseminated during the follow-up workshops organized by mobility participants with peer teachers- Increase student satisfaction with school’s counselling programme for personal and professional development, personal and decision-making programme within two student training sessions per school term as well as within form teacher counselling programme.The 11 participants to the selected in-service teacher training courses are tenured teachers of our school who teach various school subjects of all curricular areas and have at least basic English language and computer skills.The project activities are designed as following: project team formation, selection committee formation, participant selection, mobility preparation, participation in the selected teacher training courses, implementation of best practice in the school optional curriculum, diversification of interactive teaching methods used in classroom, workshops, parent lectures, public debates to disseminate acquired information, project monitoring, evaluation and follow-up.The methodology used within the project comprises: selection of mobility participant teachers, mobility preparation, integrated optional course syllabus design, planning of personal development, leadership and decision-making training sessions, theme-related workshop organisation, organisation of parents’ lecturing, planning dissemination activities, designing and administration of feedback questionnaire of impact and evaluation. Project mobility participants will return with improved linguistic competencies, developed competencies of entrepreneurship, leadership, career management, school management. They will share experience and examples of best practice of using innovative and creative methods with a view to developing problem –solving and professional development skills. On the other hand, our students will be able to choose from a greater variety of optional courses that meet their needs and interests, they will be able to develop specific and key abilities/skills, improve personal school performance, improve their language skills, become more motivated to take part in learning and extra curricular activities, with better perspectives of work or university study in Europe. Presenting the project results in materials promoting the school offer, in the students’ magazine, as well as on the school site, will definitely lead to an increasing number of students applying for our institution, to increasing teachers’ motivation in participating in European projects, and in applying for different scholarships.Adapting best practices from European schools to the realities of our school, will bring the following benefits: promoting our school among the European ones; maintaining the title of European School; attracting a great number of students to study in our school; adjusting to legal requirements concerning integrated school curriculum; greater student’s satisfaction by developing their career decision–making capacity,respectively,achiving the best insertion on the labour market.
