European Day of Integrated Sport
Start date: Jan 1, 2015, End date: Dec 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

In Europe there are significant but scarcely known examples of integrated sport (=sport played by disabled and nondisabled athletes together). This project foresees the organization of an event in Italy: The European Day of Integrated Sport. After some online conference calls and a workshop, contacts will be made with Institutions/Organizations providing services to disabled as well as with some sport plants to spread the knowledge of the project. Bookshops will also be contacted to facilitate the dissemination of project final products. On 24 May 2015 the European Day of Integrated Sport will be held in several venues in Italy. It will comprise several sport disciplines in competitions and non-competitive sport exhibitions by teams of mixed disabled and non-disabled athlet. In each venue, a delegation of athletes from countries participating in the project will also take part. The venues of the sport event will be in contact in streaming to promote the European impact of the event. Project outcomes will be: a) an increased knowledge of integrated sport at a European level b) a higher motivation of athletes to participate in integrated sport activities c) new job opportunities for sport instructors specialized in integrated sport. The project foresees three products: 1) the definition of a European set of rules of integrated sport, which will be transmitted to the respective National Olympic Organization; 2) the 2016 integrated sport calendar, with the 12 best photos taken at the event, freely distributed institutions/facilities providing services to disabled, sport clubs and bookshops; 3) paper and digital online publication in the three official EU languages, Italian and languages of participating countries with photos and the report of the day. This project’s pedagogic strategy is the use of a European network and social inclusion with sport in order to favour the reciprocal knowledge among organizations active in sport and those active with disabled people.
