School education plays a major role in European citizenship education. Civil society organisations have the ability to play a strong role in the European democracy and in promoting European citizenship. That is why this project aims to provide (future) teachers with knowledge, didactic skills, attitudes and tools to acquire the competence to teach about Europe in the classroom in a high quality way. Ryckevelde also wants cso's to develop the competence to defend their interests at EU level, to be involved in European networks and to get a clear view on the impact of the EU on their activities and organisation.School education: In Flanders there is an urgent need for (teachers of) students in teacher training to strengthen their knowledge and skills as (future) teachers. Teachers experience new challenges in their profession, e.g. less motivation of students to learn or the need to integrate e-learning tools in the curriculum; and teachers in second chance education face a new composition of their target group and lack a proper didactic offer to deal with this new reality. For ((trainers of) future) teachers the project provides: 1) a structural update of www.europaindeklas.be with content and tools for Europe education; 2) two teacher training events, focusing on ‘training the trainer’; 3) an educational app for students in secondary and second chance education. For students in SCE and their teachers we provide a workshop on how they can participate to the EU. Cso's: Research shows that cso's in Flanders want to strengthen their European dimension. A Round Table event provides them with applied knowledge and tools to implement this ambition. The in-depth and sustainable approach of Ryckevelde ensures a work programme that meets the needs of and has a clear impact on the target groups. It contributes to the professionalization of ‘teaching about Europe' in Flanders and strengthening the European dimension of cso's and their activities.
