EURIS: Europeans Using Roundwood Innovatively and Sustainably
The EURIS project plans to create a transferable training module able to be integrated into forestry and wood science education across Europe, to facilitate and improve the innovative use of roundwood and to develop potential new markets. All training content will further conform to the principles of sustainable development.A draft curriculum, to be developed by the project will include information on product, process, environmental impact, technology transfer and forest management. The curriculum will be developed, tested, evaluated and finalised at three levels, namely, mechanic, technician and engineer. Lectures on the theory, context and practice of production will be accompanied by case studies and project work guidelines. A range of new and imaginative uses of roundwood, in the partner countries, will further enrich the developed curriculum. Paper-based and interactive, electronic versions of the curriculum will be produced in all partner languages. The involvement of project partners in mobility projects provides for a wide range of partner contacts, a result of which will allow the end product to be promoted to vocational training institutions delivering forestry and wood science programmes, to industry bodies, to national and transnational networks as well as European industry and education networks. Additional dissemination channels will comprise specialist press, use of an electronic newsletter and presentations of project results to trade fairs and specialist European conferences.
