The project aims to establish a new NGA (Next Generation Access) type of telecommunication network in and between the communities concerned, thus providing long-term solutions to the rapidly increasing demand for communication networks. All this would be achieved by using the most up-to-date optical fibre technology in a publicly owned community network.By deploying a backbone cable, the project aims to ensure opportunity for these communities to reduce their isolation, to help cross-border information flows as well as to facilitate telecommunication. With the new backbone network we would like to provide both private and public users with constant bandwidth. By establishing all this, the residents living in the area may have access to all on-line services, thus abolishing the country borders. In the framework of this project, a 90 kilometres-long infrastructure is planned to be built involving 11 settlements. It is to stay in public ownership, providing opportunity for countless service providers to offer numerous and various services at the same time and on the same platform, in an area where broadband internet access is not available at the moment. The project offers solutions to the problems on both sides of the state border, allowing inter-institutional cross-border communication that can facilitate cooperation to sort out problems together, and share cultural heritage. This broadband infrastructure also allows on-line sharing as well as starting and participating on-line education and training courses. The network also supports point-to-point and point-to-multipoint communication, regardless the geographical position of the endpoints and settlements. The direct target audience of the project is represented by the 33 institutions of the local governments and the whole population (28,299 residents) of the 11 localities in the project area. The indirect beneficiaries of the project are enterprises. By the extension of the range of services and the deployment of the basic infrastructure new opportunities emerge for the businesses within the Project area both within and beyond the state border. It will have positive impact on the revenues of the enterprises, and indirectly, on the corporate tax paid to the local governments. Through the increase of the local government revenues, the life quality of the project area inhabitants will be improved. Due to the NGA network, all the social and economic participants of the region will have access to broadband services on much more favourable terms.
