PROJECT
FINISHED
This project was initiated by the Association EQUA, a non-profit organisation working since 1997 in the social and professional mediation of people with intellectual disability in the Bay of Cadiz and since 2006 has opened its line of work to other collectives (young people in general and young people in situations of or at risk of social exclusion) and to a fixed territory (the Astilleros neighbourhood where our association is located), all in a geographical context which is socially and economically difficult particularly for these collectives, with extremely high rates of youth unemployment in comparison with the national and European averages.
We proposed this project as a European Training Process for people who work in the field of Youth in the area of social inclusion, participation and transformation through methodologies using art, creativity, free time and leisure with groups of young people with diverse abilities. The 34 participants (5 trainers) came from organisations from Italy, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic, Palestine and Spain (Catalunya and Andalucia), and were youth workers with experience in artistic project with interest in broadening their possibilities to work with people with disabilities.
This project aimed to achieve the following:
- Develop professional and enterpsising competences which are applicable in youth work in the European and international field through social and artistic techniques and self-managed activities for the community which, moreover, are used to raise awareness about diversity and social and professional inclusion of young people in general as well as young people with functional diversity in particular.
- Generate a space which allows intercultural learning, dialogue and debate around the current situation for young people in Europe and in neighbouring countries and promote artistic, educational and free time open air activities which foment critical analysis and creation of proposals for transformation through social and cultural animation and young enterprising, which can give way to new projects working alongside within the same itinerary in the framework of the Erasmus Plus Programme.
- Strengthen the feeling of European citizenship and solidarity through the creation and transmission of messages and activities related to the opportunities which Erasmus + offers as a strategy for social inclusion carried out for and by young people.
These objectives were outlined through training workshops with participatory methodology in Popular and Non Formal Education, learning by doing and Education in Values, applying creative tools such as movement, theatre, arts and crafts, photography, music and rythm, self-managed activities in learning and living together and inclusive free time and leisure, sharing Good Practices from the partner organisations and the coordinator (of which is the DIVERZE Process, a project in social transformation through youth participation, Art and social-cultural animation by a group of young people with diverse abilities), and a final Community Action which was carried out in the main square of the village where the Training Course took place.
This Action served as a display of the competences and techniques which have been developed during the Training, as well as facilitating a space for visibility of the project and social, intercultural and intergenerational dialogue between the participants, the local population and the other social organisations involved from the community of Benaocaz and that of Cadiz. This has been the immediate local impact, as well as empowering a group of young people with diverse abilities, giving visibility to their project and to the currently difficult territorial and economic context.
At a European and international level and more long-term, this project has generated an international associative network which is currently designing an itinerary of joint work, following the line of Popular Education and creativity as a tool of transformation, inclusion and social entrepreneurship with young people with diverse abilities, analysing results, giving visibility and providing an element of transferibility to other projects and other organisations.
