SKF Technical Upper Secondary School (SKF Tekniska Gymnasium) has an ongoing project concerning a Sustainable Future which involves all our students in all three years. Thanks to this project the school has been assigned ”best practice” for education about sustainability. The school’s project also received recognition at UNESCOs conference in Japan in November 2015. The project started because the school teachers realise the importance of the subject sustainability and we consider it to be the most relevant and important subject for the students to be concerned with. The Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket) is also very clear about the importance of the subject within the educational national policy documents. In addition, SKF as a company is very concerned about the matter. The school project, hereafter referred to as SF, includes the learning of energy sources in historical, current and futuristic perspectives as well a building of a prototype windmill, planning of a wind park and the analysis of the wind park lifecycle. Except SF the school also have a vast international project including a well developed programme of internships in various European countries for our year three students. For the first time we have this year included the sustainability aspect of the programme with several different assignments relevant for different destinations. This is something we would like to develop and strengthen through more international contacts and also include an international perspective of the sustainability subject for our younger students. The objective of this activity through Erasmus+ is for the participants, as well as the rest of the school, to develop deeper understanding and knowledge about Education for Sustainable Development and environmental issues. Another objective is to develop the usage of ICT which will facilitate international contacts through eTwinning. This includes a discussion between our students and students in other countries through which they will all gain knowledge and understanding about the importance of sustainable living as well as awareness of difference in cultural aspects and possibilities. The participants of this project will be Therese Almgren and Mattias Bengtsson who are both teachers and project managers for SF, and the English teacher Kristina Flock. The activities for the participants are: • A one-week course at Malta; “The Global Classroom 2015 – Educating for a more just and sustainable world” • A one-week course in Bath; “Using ICT to facilitate new developments in Teaching and Learning” To be able to run the project and keep focus we will set goals and partial goals which can be continuously checked. They will be set for each activity separately. One of the main goals is to gain more knowledge about ESD in general and to get international contacts as well as develop the usage of ICT. This will result in an e-Twinning project for the students with sustainability as the main topic. The long term benefits of this project for everybody involved – direct or indirect – are to be more aware of the human impacts on our environment and how we must take responsibility for our actions. We want to share our knowledge about working with SF with other schools in Europe and for this the usage of ICT is of great importance.
