Casa- Escuela Santiago Uno is a non-profit organization that, for the last 40 years, has been mainly focused on helping children with lower opportunities and for those who understand that diversity enriches. It aims to create a healthy family environment where there is trust and respect, compensate socially disadvantaged children and increase their possibilities: the proper use of language, written and spoken, learn to spend their free time in a healthy way, get academic degrees, creating alternative employment from the rural environment and schools of circus arts ...
The Home School maintains well-organized activities full time, daily and on weekends and holidays, from the everyday 7am wake-up time to the 11pm bedtime. The activities that we carry out on a permanent basis are:
• We provide regulated professional training, formal education: PCPI, Intermediate and Advanced Level
• Academic support services, from PCPI to Advanced level and university.
Our activities in non-formal education are:
o Circus school: Capoeira, Stilts, Magic, Acting, Juggling, Acrobatics, Break Dance, Drumming...
o Cooperative project in the south of Morocco, carried out with the youths during the two summer months.
o Daily assemblies central to the governance of the Home.
o Zero drugs program, weekly with laboratory work.
o Social cooperative proyect " La Golondrina Sayaguesa"
o All types of artistic, professional, sporting and leisure workshops.
o Individual and family therapy, Systemic Model Solution-Focused Therapy.
o Sexual education and family planning.
The volunteer will join the dynamic of the house and its extensive volunteer group, focusing his work on the informal educational activities that take place throughout the year, depending on their abilities, interests and responsibility.
The volunteer will live in the Casa-Escuela Santiago Uno, and although we have six single family homes, those are designated for protective services and judicial measures. The volunteer will live in a room, it could be share wiht other young people. All food service as well as health care and any residence issues are covered by Escuela Santiago Uno. They also facilitate the processing of any documentation you need. The volunteer schedule depends on the activities carried out, agreed between the volunteer and his/her assigned tutor. The volunteer will work for 7 hours a day and will have two free days per week. We will try to adapt the working hours to the activities interesting for the volunteer and to the schedule of the educational activities that he/she will want to make in any other entity. The duration of the project is like a school year. The volunteer can also use, if he/she needs to, our psychological department that serves children, sportsmen or educators that help those with their studies.
Casa-Escuela Santiago Uno is situated in the center of Salamanca, so most of the activities take place here, except for those that require leaving the city for day trips or circus shows in other cities.
The city of Salamanca offers an incomparable opportunity for foreign students, as it is a lively, friendly, dynamic, safe and well maintained city that features the prestige and tradition of the university, one of the oldest in Europe, excellent and highly accredited schools. Salamanca is an ideal place for learning and improving the language, in short, the City of Spanish.
Due to its humanist tradition and rich artistic heritage, Salamanca was named a World Heritage City by UNESCO in 1988 and the European Capital of Culture in 2002.
With respect to rules and conditions of volunteering, the person will sign a written agreement that includes his obligations and rights, as set out in the law 8/2006 of October 10th, on Volunteerism in Castilla y León.
As an organization we will take responsibility for hosting the volunteer in our facilities, with benefit of having a separate room with the option of sharing with other volunteers or educators. On arrival, we will provide her/him a welcome which will facilitate processing of documents, schedules, health care, training courses, rest periods, actually everything that he/she needs for a successful volunteer development. Within all his/her activities, he/she will perform a program of 7 hours in the afternoon and two free days per week, Saturday and Sunday. Language training will be held in the morning, but also in the afternoon. Because of the social nature of volunteering and multiple interactions with young people, it will be a very interesting time of training.
