Escuela abierta Santiago Uno para la integración de menores con menos oportunidades
Start date: Sep 1, 2014, End date: Jul 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Volunteers have developed a volunteer project during an academic year in “Casa-Escuela Santiago Uno”, from October 2013 to May 2014. Three volunteers have taken part in the project at the same time. Volunteers have collaborated and lived together with the teenagers who live and study in “Casa Escuela Santiago Uno”, accompanied by the professionals who work there and the Spanish volunteers who come to the organization. They have participated in non-formal educational activities in the afternoon and at weekends: classes in the Circus School: capoeira, stilts, magic, interpretation, juggling, acrobatics, break dance, percussion, falconry… taught from Monday to Friday. Daily assembly as the highest authority at the “Casa”, held every day after lunch and dinner. Arts, Environment, Sport and Leisure workshops. As a sample we have: football, climbing, drawing, information technology, languages, basketball, pottery, skating, Latin dance, mountain biking, digital image use… on weekdays and at weekends. Individual, Group and Family therapies, from the Systemic Therapeutical Model centred in Solutions and the Theory of Promotion. Individual and group sessions directed every day. Affective-sexual Education developed through a comprehensive program and addressed to all the teenagers living in the “Casa-Escuela”. Directed studies separated in academic levels, from ESO, Bachillerato, PCPI, FP Grado Medio and Superior, every day and including work by volunteers in language tasks. Zero drugs program, everyday work in prevention and monitoring, where weekly control is taken by a clinical laboratory. The volunteer participation method is based on the principles of non-formal education, with active and accompaniment participation, with progressive responsibility in learning and autonomous development in the competences achieved. The variety of activities, both leisure and education activities, make it possible for the volunteer to, progressively, take part in those activities which most attract them at the beginning and as their cohabitation develops in the organization they are interested in several subjects at the same time and come to suggest their own activities through learning or their personal abilities, as it has finally happened. “Casa Escuela Santiago Uno” is located in the centre of Salamanca, so most of the activities take place here, except for those activities in which it is necessary to leave the city, such as one-day trips or circus exhibitions in other cities in which volunteers have participated actively, since this has been one of their biggest motivations, the fact of getting to know, through the Circus School and their performances, several Spanish cities. This trips with teenagers who have less opportunities, represent one of the most appreciated extraordinary activities which are developed in the organization and the volunteers wanted to take part in them from the beginning. The grant for volunteer projects amounts to 20.410 €.
