ERICÈPACE
Start date: Feb 1, 2015, End date: Jun 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project was carried out in Erice (Trapani), 12 to 21 May. The host organization is the Erice Art Foundation which has already promoted and participated in initiatives aimed at promoting intercultural dialogue and peace. The town of Erice has always promoted the activities related to the theme of cultural diversity and dialogue as a form of encounter. The project wanted to follow up on everything that has been done so far to continue to raise awareness, in particular young people on an issue so important and timely. The initiative aimed to bring the focus among young people the urgency of peace, cooperation and dialogue between cultures and religions in the different realities of the Mediterranean Sea, enhancing the vocation of Sicily in the process of integration and solidarity among peoples. The goal of the project was to stimulate a reflection on Europe today as it has a multi-cultural and diverse range of social segments coexisting. Erice (Sicily) was the perfect place as it has always been the territory of encounter and coexistence of different peoples. Specifically, the project sought to encourage interaction between young citizens and organizations of the participating countries, contributing to intercultural dialogue and highlighting the diversity and unity among themselves, with a focus on immigration issues in the Mediterranean and peace, its values and the well-being of citizens by stimulating debate and reflection. The initiative has served to help reawaken in young participants the idea of belonging to the same area, to bring in this way our contribution to peace in the freedom of a united Europe. The exchange was attended by 23 young people from Spain, Greece, Turkey and Italy. We wanted to create a group as heterogeneous as possible, young people who have different life experiences, who have never traveled to Europe (or little) and boys who already significant experience of mobility in Europe so as to compare with each other their citizen perception and to understand the different facets. Specifically, the project has contributed to the personal and social growth of the participants through: - The improvement of language skills through communication in a foreign language; - The growth of such non-verbal communication skills, listening and speaking; - Strengthening the skill to interact with different cultures and environments; - Improving the ability to address and manage conflicts in a group; - The acquisition of socio-cultural tools to better understand a culture different from that of origin; The main activities were: - Presentations of countries and national groups - Workshops (on European citizenship, on the Youth in action program, on the theme of peace); - Debates and simulations; - Intercultural learning activities; - Visits in the city These activities have created a positive impact for the community in general at the local level, and have a major impact at national and European level through the dissemination of the results achieved by the participants themselves.
