Erasmus+ für Gärtner
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project offers apprentice gardeners the opportunity of a three-week work placement in Denmark. Within two years, twenty-two apprentices of different specifications, e.g. landscaping or ornamental plant production, may take part in this program. The project is organized by three different vocational schools in Baden-Württemberg (Christiane-Herzog-Schule, Heilbronn; Justus-von-Liebig-Schule, Göppingen; Staatsschule für Gartenbau und Landwirtschaftliche Schule, Stuttgart) in co-operation with the Tech College Aalborg. The participants are going to work in different companies and visit vocational schools on at least two days in order to get an impression of the educational training in Denmark. We created the program and visited all internship providers during a preparatory study visit in 2014. The work placements will not only improve the expertise of the apprentices, but also enhance the interpersonal skills: the apprentices are going to organize their stay self-dependently as a group. That means that they will have to solve problems with fellow travelers they didn’t know before. Moreover, the participants will strengthen their communication skills while talking English as lingua franca in Denmark. We hope that the opportunity of working abroad will motivate the students for the ESL-classes at our vocational schools. The program shows that the personal development of our students is just as important to us as developing vocational and technical skills, although the students only visit our schools part-time. We also aim to expand our international profiles and offer work placements in more and more European countries. Besides, supporting our program will improve the image of our apprenticing companies and help them to find high-ability trainees for the future.
