Equality and Diversity Learning in the European Steel Industry

The project 'Equality and Diversity Learning in the European Steel Industry', with ten partners in nine countries aims to contribute to the mainstreaming of equality within the European steel industry. The project will undertake a comprehensive mapping exercise of the socio-demographic profile of the European steel workforce which will inform the development of training materials; will develop on-line and paper training and career development materials that will form part of a European approach to equality of opportunity in the steel industry; will produce a dedicated tutor handbook to inform teaching content and practice by trainers and educators in the steel industry and will produce a series of briefings that identify the vocational training needs of the workforce with particular reference to equality and diversity. The briefing materials produced by the project will inform stakeholders in the steel industry by providing an evidence base for both policy making and social dialogue in consideration of learning strategies and training programmes. The general target group for the project is Europe's steel industry workforce, with an emphasis on the particular needs of women, ethnic minorities, and older workers. Training materials will be devised that pay particular attention to the needs of these groups. Online materials will be developed with regard to their pan-European transferability and piloted alongside existing training programmes in two selected countries. Project results will be disseminated as 'good practice' examples and in the form of briefing papers to relevant stakeholders.
