"EPHTL- Professional Skills to Young Pupil 2014"
Start date: Jun 8, 2014, End date: Jun 7, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

Escola Profissional de Hotelaria e Turismo de Lisboa, with the application to the programme Erasmus+, action KA1 – Learning Mobility of Individuals, intends to develop the human potential of the school, through formal, informal and non-formal apprenticeships. Inserted in a less favourable social environment, EPHTL considers this application an integrant part of its educational project, since its main mission is to provide a quality vocational teaching in the Hotel and Tourism areas, contributing to the economic development of the region, through a privileged contact with companies of the sector, both national and international. Since 2006, EPHTL has established partnerships with intermediary and host entities in different European countries, through the participation in the programmes Leonardo da Vinci, Comenius and the participation in preparatory visits. With these projects, the school opens to the world and provides its students a contact with new cultures, new working methodologies, thus developing their competences and giving them a competitive advantage. The project, EPHTL – Professional Skills to Young Pupil 2014, intends to accept the challenge issued by Agenda Europa 2020, since we will train more skilled and effective professionals; we will improve their linguistic competences and we will show the results as we will allow the participants to have their apprenticeships recognized, not only in Portugal but in Europe. In this project, EPHTL intends to involve 13 students from the following technical courses: Reception, Restaurant/Bar, Cooking/pastry and Tourism. We will select students from the12th grade, that’s to say, attending the last year of the courses previously mentioned. The participation in this project represents the culmination of the acquired competences throughout the attendance of the three years of the course. This work experience abroad is considered an extremely enriching experience to their personal and professional development, allowing the dissemination of the acquired knowledge to teachers, colleagues and the professional sector. These young students have chosen a professional sector where fluency in foreign languages, general knowledge, good communication skills and creativity are fundamental to their professional development. Belonging to a low socio-economical level, these students hardly will find any other form of travelling and developing their competences. The project counts on a multidisciplinary team that will coordinate the project. The activities for the execution of the project will start with presentation and acceptation, by the partners of the vocational areas submitted by the Board of the school. The students who participated in a former mobility will enlighten their colleagues on the subject and will participate in cooking and waitressing workshops, in the countries where the mobility took place. The contents and competences to acquire in this project are previously agreed and partnership letters are signed by the partner countries. The students are informed about the selection criteria. Then, the interested students must enrol for the project. The students are chosen after the selection phase. The dissemination that has taken place with some activities is now projected to the outside through the contact with companies of the sector that will provide preparation curricular trainings to the participants. These participants will be prepared at a technical, pedagogical, linguistic, cultural and psychosocial level. The intermediary entities will appoint a tutor that will be responsible for the integration of the participants at a social level and in the premises where the vocational training takes place, during the mobility. The host entities will also have a tutor. These two tutors from the host country will communicate, on a regular basis, with the tutors appointed by the school, teachers from technical areas. At the end of the mobility, the evaluation and the certification are sent by the intermediary and host entities. After that, the final reports are produced and the evaluation of the project is made as well as its dissemination. The results from the mobility will not only influence the participants and intervenient entities as they will have a positive effect by improving the students’ self-confidence and entrepreneurship, thus fighting school abandon. The expected results will be noticed at a short term: the participants will develop key-competences and grow up at a personal and professional level; partners will be acquainted with new working methodologies that will enhance their competences. At a long term, participants will certainly easily adapt to the world of work. Many of these participants will find a job position in the company where they had the preparatory training; the partnerships with the European entities will be strengthened and future initiatives will take place. The communication will be kept through etwinning, email, skype and facebook.
