Environment and Inclusion through Junior Ranger Camp

The project ”Environment and inclusion through Junior Ranger Camp” aimed to develop best practices at european level, developing a sustainable system for the promotion of the biodiversity, the european consciousnees upon environmental issues and green attitudes among young people.
Project objectives:
- To involve youth workers in the process of identifying and solving environmental issues at local level through Junior Ranger Camp activities.
- To develop sustainable tools for the promotion of the european conciousness of young people upon the environment issues and green atitudes.
- To promote a green culture, a helthy lifestyle, biodiversity and intercultural among young people.
- To promote the social inclusion through Junior Ranger Camps and the develop opportunities for young people with fewer opportunities.
- To consolidate a sustenaible partnership among the participating organizations.
JRC started from a clear set of common problems regarding young people’s involvement in environmental problems and a lack of green attitudes among them, problems that have been identified during the preparation of the proposal form along with partners and suggests a series of solutions for the promotion of the biological and cultural diversity The project objectives and the planned activities met the needs of local communities of all partners and the project themes (environment, education through sport and outdoor activities, European citizenship and volunteering, promoting a healthy lifestyle) and they were closely related to the needs and problems identified
The project brought together 8 organizations from 8 countries: Romania, Italy, FYR of Macedonia, Greece, Spain, Malta, Poland and Estonia.
The project had two main activities:
1. An APV held in Bacau (Romania) between 11th and 12th of July 2015 with the participation of 8 group leaders and 1 young participant.
2. A youth exchange with the participation of 45 young people and group leaders from the 8 involved countries, held in Slanic Moldova (Romania) between 18th and 28th of September 2015. During the exchange, we implemented:
- Teambuilding sessions and intercultural activities.
- Thematic sessions, debates and group tasks about the importance of biodiversity, green attitudes, a healthy lifestyle, our role in conserving the biodiversity, etc.
- Thematic outdoor sessions and study visits for the understanding of biodiversity by the young participants.
- Working sessions meant to promote the social inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities and to ensure that the young participants understand the inclusion and exclusion.
- Creative workshops meant to facilitate the development of visual tools for promoting the biodiversity, healthy lifestyle and green attitudes.
- Reflection and evaluation sessions.
- Informing sessions about Erasmus+ and Youthpass Certificate.
The tangible project’s results:
- A best practice guide;
- Posters, photos, video clips promoting biodiversity, healthy lifestyle and green attitudes.
- Project’s promotion materials (flyers, roll-up, etc.)
- The project’s movie;
- The handmade recycled materials developed by participants during the creative sessions.
- The second edition of the project – Environment and Inclusion through Junior Ranger Camp 2 – applied at the first 2016’s deadline.
The impact may be seen especially at participants’ level, as they have assumed the role of an European responsible citizen, they developed green attitudes, pro biodiversity, and have assumed a healthy lifestyle; They understood the concept of biodiversity and nature’s green services; They have developed specific knowledge about the biodiversity preservation, their creativity, key competences, transversal skills and their intercultural dimension.
In the long term, the project aims to develop a sustainable system of information and to promote a green culture among young people in partnership with other actors (NGOs, schools, public authorities) through continue promoting best practices developed in the project and to develop a international network promoting an ecological culture and a healthy lifestyle among youth.
