Our school is specialised in training young people in different professions either in the business/administration sector or as assistants in the health care sector. Our students are mainly from a rural area with one bigger city (population shortly above 50.000). Both areas have more and more the problem of social exclusion of some groups and poverty. In some groups education of the children is not an issue, the more important is it to get those children into a typical training in the Dual System. Often enough, students with low and higher education and from different cultural backgrounds are in the same class. Due to the problems all over the world the number of refugees from countries in Africa and the Middle East will increase and we have to address the awareness of cultural differences. Students have to be prepared not only for the local labour market, but for the European labour market. Students with different types of obstacles (educational, economic, cultural and social) have to be kept from school dropout.
The aim of our project is to improve the language skills and cultural awareness of our staff. As a result we want to improve the teaching quality at our school and strengthen the teaching profession. This will help us in the long run to improve the attainment of our students and prepare them for the European labour market.
The focus of our project will be on enhancing the business English skills / teaching critical thinking skills, foreign language competence and cultural awareness of 10 teachers of our staff as disseminators and furthering their knowledge and expertise in teaching in the business English environment because they teach students of all kinds of business at a vocational school.
Important components of our school’s quality concept are a continuous teacher training and a high degree of teamwork regarding to lesson planning and sharing methods and material. This will be promoted and achieved by our projects.
The longer term benefits of our project will be an enhanced confidence of our teachers and an increased attainment of our students. This will raise their interest in foreign languages, their cultural awareness, improve their competences for lifelong learning and, as a result, their mobility on the labour market.
On the long run we hope that it will give us the chance to extend the European cooperation of our school.
