English as the Cornerstone of Sustainable Technology and Research

Wider objectives: Standardize new national curricular framework for EFL programs in Israeli HEI; harmonize new curriculum with ECTS and Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR); reduce socioeconomic gaps by helping students attain English proficiency levels needed in local and global labour markets; inter-tempus coaching to share EU EFL expertise on ECTS and CEFR with Israeli partners; professionalize EFL teaching at tertiary level. Specific objectives: Integrate all 4 language skills at all levels of EFL program; develop and pilot model EFL courses at 3 levels to implement bottom-up change to EFL teaching/assessment; develop modular learning packages (LP) of multimedia instructional materials to support new CEFR- aligned curriculum; develop generic technology-based language support solutions and best practice teaching strategies for English Medium Instruction (EMI) courses; train EFL teachers to use new technologies and open educational resources (OER); build and maintain an open access national repository of EFL resources; encourage student autonomy with self-access to online EFL resources; Outputs:EU-aligned tertiary EFL curriculum; LP of multimedia resources for teaching English speaking, listening, writing and reading skills at all CEFR levels; national repository of EFL OER; model course on sustainable ecology taught in English to demonstrate new framework and support materials for EMI courses; teacher training on implementation of new curriculum; national conferences, research articles, international and internal meetings, webinars to disseminate new curriculum.OutcomesStandardization and internationalization of HEI EFL programs; enhance mobility and employability of graduates from all sectors; equal access for all sectors to overseas study opportunities; reduce fragmentation among Israeli HEI; increase ties between Israeli and EU HEI.
