The background of the project: We are a higher secondary or grammar school in Carinthia and want to give our teacher Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth the opportunity to participate in a fifteen days´ teachers´ training for English teachers in Galway, Ireland. Project aims: In the course of the teacher training Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth is going to improve and enhance her linguistic, didactical and other subject related competencies as an English teacher, cultural mediator and knowledge broker in the class room. She will also increase her expertise in the use of the Whiteboard and interactive and social communication tools and media. In that way the training programme will have an immediate and highly positive impact on the quality of Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth´s teaching. After the training Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth will act as a multipier, disseminating the newly aquired skills and knowledge to her colleagues in- and outside our school. The new input she is going to be provided with throughout the training will also find its direct way in the improvement of the school´s competency-based curriculum design or syllabus. Being in Galway Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth will also have the unique opportunity to establish and create new international contacts with institutions and individuals from different European countries thus enabling our school to initiate and join new international projects and partnerships. For that purpose Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth has already become a member of the eTwinning community. It´s one of our school´s priorities to spread the European idea and spirit among our students and promote and advance the international cooperation, integration and networking of the BG Porcia. In that way Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth´s participation in the training measure serves an important function in opening the door to new interantional friendships, partnerships, projects and exchanges both on an institutional and personal level. The profile of the participant: Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth has been working as an English- and Spanish teacher at our institution for five years. She is highly motivated and very keen on new learning and teaching mehods as well as on intercultural competence, exchange and mediation. For that purpose in the previous school-year Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth organized a one-week´s language course for her spanish language students for the first time in the school´s history. For the last one and a half years Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth has been participating in a four-semester university programme at the university of Klagenfurt focusing on subjects didactics and methodology in order to improve and enhance the quality of her own teaching and act as a multiplier as well. Description of the activities and procedures with regard to the project implementation: The training course is carried out by the project partners in Galway. They are in charge of the development, planning, conducting and follow-up of the course. They also come up with the exact studying programme which will be sent to Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth in advance. Intended results and impacts as well as expected long-term utilty: During the project Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth will improve her linguisitic and professional skills and competence as a mediator of the English and Irish language, culture and mentality. She will enhance her knowledge on the country and its people and share and pass it on among her students and colleagues. In that way she has in important role in extending knowledge and in contributing to the quality of the teaching at the BG Porcia in general. The attained know-how with regard to the use of the Whiteboard, the new social and interactive media and communication technologies will find its direct outcome in the teaching of Mrs. Kaserer-Zoppoth and the syllabus of our institution. It will also be spread on to the entire teaching staff. Another important proposed result and effect of Mrs Kaserer-Zoppoth´s study course in Galway is a series of new and exciting international contacts, partnerships, projects and networks with schools abroad all of which push the internationalisation of our institution and promote the European idea, spirit and integration.
