Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

In child development and education, early childhood education and special education have an important place. Special education which passed through various stages such as implementation and understanding has become recognized as an integral part of general education system. As individuals who have physical, mental, spiritual and social disabilities comparing to others, it is an incontestable right for the people with disabilities to live like others, meaning economically, socially and culturally as normal citizens. This "welfare state" has been one of the most important principles of the countries in recent years. Countries with the understanding of welfare state, without any distinction, offer employment areas to all citizens according to their abilities and skills. Thus, integration and rehabilitation, participation to the community for the people with disabilities can be provided and according to their statuses and skills, they can be able to work in appropriate jobs. For this purpose, our project named "Employment and Tourism Education for People with Disabilities" will be carried out to support people who are mentally disabled. 30 participants who will go to the Netherlands within the project will be attending courses in accordance with the economic conditions of our school which is located in Antalya. Because our province has still been in the process of development, it will be easier for them to find job opportunities with being trained in tourism. Courses within this process will be as follows: cleaning, laundry and room operations, service preparation, classical and modern methods in the service and room service for the people who can be involved in the organization. With this project, our participants will be able to have their own professional knowledge and competence in housekeeping services and therefore they will be able to stand on their own feet as they improve their practical skills. After 15 days of training, they will be given certificates and with these, they will be able to prove their competences. After these courses, our participants will improve themselves in terms of professional areas through the practical and theoretical trainings they are given. In addition to these achievements, they will turn back to the country as individuals who gained self confidence and social skills. Our participants with mental disabilities will also improve their self-care skills within this project. They will reach the goal of having a better, more qualified lives and economic independence. They will take part in the society and will also be able to meet with other cultures, languages and build new relationships while training process. As individuals that can stand on their own feet, our project will help them to contribute with society and this will rapidly increase the quality of the new workshops that are going to be opened soon. In addition to the benefits for participants, this project will also increase the possibility of employment for the participants.
