The Hotel and Tourism Programme and the Restaurant and Catering Programme at Åva Gymnasium organize in close co-operation with the Hotel and Catering Programme at the Lyceum and Technical School of Polis Chrysochous, Cyprus, a work placement of two weeks in selected work places on Cyprus. The goal of the project is to provide an opportunity for the students to develop their vocational skills in the hotel, tourism, restaurant and catering industries. The students also get an unparallelled chance to use their existing language skills as well as acquire new ones. The participating 16 students are all attending the 3rd grade, the last year, of the vocational secondary school. The students will complete their work placements at selected hotels and restaurants of high quality on Cyprus. The task of Åva Gymnasium is to organize opportunities for our students to acquire work experience in another European country, mainly in order to get an insight into the tourism, hotel and restaurant industries. To create national and above all international networks during one´s student years is of great importance for future employments and contacts, both professionally and socially. Earlier, we have completed exchange projects with schools in among others Italy, Spain, France and Norway with good results. The students have benefitted both reagarding their work experiences and their academic results. The project´s aim is to raise the students´ skills in and knowledge of their vocational subjects, thus creating the best possible basis for future careers, to improve their language skills in particular in English and Greek, to improve their people skills, to increase their professional skills, to alert them to environmental issues, to facilitate contacts within the industries and to introduce them to foreign cultures, which leads to opposing racism and promoting social equality in Europe.
