EMPOWER MIGRANTS

The ever-growing presence of communities of foreigners in Europe results from severalfactors, including economic differences between high and low wage countries and thefree circulation of citizens within the EU. Both national and local governments have todeal with this phenomenon. Also, the EC has developed a range of policies formigration and integration.The MIGRANTS+ project aims:1. at training trainers, mediators and support staff on how to assess basic skills2. and competencies of adult emigrants and their learning needs by using asoftware tool3. at developing life long learning opportunities for adult migrantsMIGRANTS+ will build on current intercultural training models and training schemes aswell as on the software tool produced by the FIL Leonardo project, which detectslearning needs for basic skills. It will adapt and transfer knowledge, methods and goodpractices on intercultural education and add value to them.The generic skills already developed in the FIL project and which will be adapted for usein MIGRANTS+ are:• numeracy• ICT• use of internet• communication skills• human relations• occupational health.Those that will be developed within the MIGRANTS+ project will be literacy (in thelanguage of each host country), legislation (civil rights, employment laws, socialsecurity) and knowledge of the culture of each host country.The project results will also be:1. two transnational training courses of trainers/mediators/support staff formigrants from all partner countries, on how to use the tool (EL, FR)2. pilot application in groups of migrants in six countries (CZ, DE, IT, PL, TR, UK).There is a balance of partners in the project as far as hosting countries (DE, EL, FR, IT,UK) and countries of origin (CZ, PL, TR) as well as geographical coverage, andcoverage of the “old”, “new” and “under accession” countries are concerned.The impact of the project will be huge on NGOs, training institutions (in both hostingcountries and countries of origin) and companies and other agencies.
