With the mobility project EMO (English and More) we are going to pursue two main goals: 1. After successfully implementing the European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) Volkshochschule Bonn now is confronted with the challenge of implementing the European Qualifications Framework (EQF). The VHS's direction, heads of department and teaching staff of the department of foreign languages / German language and integration / vocational training will exchange experiences with and learn from European partners from Belgium, France, Italy and Austria who are already using this instrument. 2. A growing focus on English as dominant foreign language (what are the middle- and long-term effects on an up to that point very comprehensive programme of foreign languages?) leads to curricular and intercultural challenges for the development of our programme and the use of the EQR. To better deal with this challenge the VHS's direction, heads of department and teaching staff of the department of foreign languages / German language and integration / vocational training will gather information on the benefits of multilingualism for the development of individual qualifications. What are the personal and professional opportunities arising from linguistic abilities that transcend English as a mere vehicle of communication? As to this second of our main goals we hope to learn especially from the experiences of educational institutions in multilingustic countries (Belgium, Italy/South Tirol).
