The very idea of European integration is inspired by the potentials of ‘unity in diversity’; non-discrimination as a centralelement of EU law is an underlying precondition for its inherent dynamics. In a knowledge-based society it is a significantvalue, a source of competitive advantage. The goal of the module is to create sensitivity for the topic and its potentials. Due to the programme’s interdisciplinary and cross border nature, its international profile and the heterogeneous studentbody, diversity is a daily commodity for its students. The module will complement the lived experiences with an academicdimension, introducing students to the research area of European antidiscrimination law and politics and cultivatingawareness of the subject matter. The idea is that students – simultaneously studying and experiencing it – will fully graspand identify with the concept. The module will trigger increased debate amongst students and academia alike and make the topic an object of furtheracademic inquiry. Students, which to great parts are third-country nationals, will promote the positive effects of diversityand antidiscrimination beyond the borders of the EU. Participating organizations are the University of Flensburg, the University of Southern Denmark with the Institute forBorder Region Studies, and the European Centre for Minority Issues. The former head of the German FederalAntidiscrimination Agency will be strongly involved and closer ties are presently being established with the University of Wrocław, Poland.
