Project „Electrical engineering – from theory to practice“ resulted from the intention to enable continuous vocational training abroad to students of Vyšší odborná škola a Střední průmyslová škola Františka Křižíka (Tertiary and Secondary Technical school of Electrical Engineering of František Křižík), Praha 1, Na Příkopě 16. Based on previous good experience, Germany was chosen as the host country (students of our school had already undergone vocational training there), namely the firm FAA BildungsgesellschaftmbH, Südost.
The goal of the project was intertwining of theoretical training provided by our school with practical skills in the area of electrical engineering. The host organisation has at their disposal material and technological equipment for vocational training at the level of modern companies, which is not available at our school. In addition, the host organisation has direct contacts with German businesses and the vocational training was tailored to their needs. As a result our trainees gained skills applicable in the international labour market.
The project was realized in four periods, two for secondary students of electrical engineering and IT (including an accompanying teacher), and two for tertiary students of power engineering.
Schedule of the 14-day courses was following:
1st group of 7 participants 12.10.2014 - 25.10.2014
2nd group of 10 participants 17.5.2015 - 30.5.2015
3rd group of 11 participants 4.10.2015 - 17.10.2015
4th group of 11 participants 7.2.2016 - 20.2.2016
Secondary students of electrical engineering and IT were chosen from 2nd, 3rd and 4th year. IT at our school is focused on Electrotechnical engineering and so students of this field have theoretical electrotechnical training but practical training is equally important for them. Tertiary student were chosen from all three years. Our students are not taught German language, so our school organised intensive short-term German courses for each group beforehand at our own costs. The German tutors are also able to communicate in English, which eliminated communication barriers.
For each period there was a precise schedule of activities. Secondary participants were involved in module 5 according to German offer: Electrical engineering – from design to finished electrical circuit. Particular activities were directed at technical documentation and its preparation and processing, use of CAD software in electrical engineering, practical application of rules and regulations for electrical installations, protecting measures according to DIN-VDE. All those skills together were applied for practical production of controlling switchboards. In addition, tertiary participants also had in their programme module 1: Controlling technology on example of programmable logic controller LOGO. The main activities involved: comparing of contact and programmed controlling, the structure of programmable logic controller LOGO and relation to software, basics of digital technology in programmable logic controller LOGO, practical switching technology in controlling, finding bugs in controlling and electropneumatics.
Each workday the participants worked in a fully equipped laboratory under the guidance of an experienced tutor Mr Nostitz.
