Elaboration of Soil Strategy for the Nyírség Region and Bihor Mountains based EU soil directives (HUROtalajvéd)

The project ‘HUROtalajvéd’ gives significant support to the improvement of the agricultural activities in the regions covered by three counties at the two borders of Hungary and Romania. The objectives of the project are integrated into the main trends of the European strategies as concerns the sustainable environmental development, dealing specifically with the questions of the soil protection.The goal of the project is to elaborate a sustainable soil strategy for the two partners’ landscapes of different characteristics (hilly region and sandy plains), both with disadvantageous social and with physical geographical background (Nyírség, Bihar Mountains) in accordance with EU directives: Soil Framework Directive, COM (2006:232) and Soil Thematic Strategy, COM (2006: 231). The project includes eight activity packages, six of them relates to specific questions of the agriculture. The result of the project will make possible for farmers to carry out sustainable agricultural activities, based on the knowledge database developed within the project, to apply the Sustainability Index Model, to use the EU cross-compliance system and to know the relevant technologies of the region.The main activities of the project are: evaluation of Aeolian corrosion in Nyirseg Area, evaluation of the environment in Nyirseg from water supply point of view, enlargement of the database for sustainable nutrition in Nyirseg Area, improvement of sandy soils in Nyirseg Area, erosion and agro technology of soils on slopes, sustainability Index Model for Bihor Mountains and Nyirseg Area.The project target group is formed by all local farmers and their organizations.
